ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Role

  • To adjust the pre-heating time
  • To adjust the post-heating time
  • To adjust the starting flow
  • To adjust the idle speed
  • To authorize exhaust gas recycling (EGR)
  • To adjust the fuel flow
  • To limit the flow injected if the temperature of the coolant is critical (anti-boil function)
  • To operate the fans
  • To operate the warning and pre-warning lights

FUEL TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Role

Rule of the engine-ECU as a function of the information received:

  • To adjust the fuel flow
  • To calculate the fuel density

AIR FLOW SENSOR

Role

  • To calculate the exhaust gas recycling rate
  • To limit smoke production during the transitional phase (acceleration, deceleration) by correcting the fuel flow

  • The intake air mass sensor (air flow sensor)
  • The air temperature sensor

Description

  • Metallic plate (hot film)
  • Air temperature sensor

  • Heating resistor
  • Measurement resistor (NTC)

caution Do not touch the metallic plate; the use of an air nozzle is forbidden

AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR

Role

  • The calculation of the theoretical volume of air
  • The calculation of the injection advance
  • The calculation of the injection flow
  • The activation of the additional heating (on the order of the ETACS-ECU)

INTAKE AIR PRESSURE SENSOR

Role

  • Regulate the boost pressure
  • Regulate the high pressure fuel pressure
  • Regulate the duration of injection (fuel flow)

Description

CRANK ANGLE SENSOR

Role

The engine speed information in provided by an active sensor.
Features of the crank angle sensor:

  • Location close to the crankshaft
  • Hall effect operating principle
  • No adjustment or maintenance required

Function

note Combining these two types of information - cylinder reference sensor and engine speed sensor - the engine-ECU calculates the exact position of each cylinder over the course of time.

RAIL PRESSURE SENSOR

Role

  • To work out the amount of fuel to inject
  • To determine the start of injection
  • To regulate the pressure of the high pressure pump

Location

Electrical features

caution Do not measure the resistance at the terminals of the sensor with a ohmmeter, as this may become damaged.

WATER IN FUEL SENSOR

Role

Electrical features

  • Channel 1: +12 volts signal
  • Channel 2: Output voltage
  • Channel 3: Earth

note As water comes into contact with the electrodes, the signal is transmitted to the engine-ECU.

PROPORTIONAL OXYGEN SENSOR

Role

Representative graph of the proportional oxygen sensor

ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR

The operation is basically the same as that of the BSY-unit injection engine. Refer to GROUP 13A - Sensor .

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR

The throttle position sensor is installed in the throttle body. Throttle position sensor outputs voltage to engine-ECU based on the throttle shaft rotation angle. Engine-ECU used this signal to detect the throttle valve opening angle to perform throttle valve control motor feedback control.

VARIABLE GEOMETRY POSITION SENSOR

The variable geometry position sensor is built in the turbocharger controller installed to the turbocharger. The variable geometry position sensor outputs the voltage to the engine-ECU based on nozzle vane angle of turbochager. The engine-ECU carries out the feedback control for the variable geometry control motor using this signal.
