Code No. P0016: Crank Angle Sensor/Camshaft Position Sensor Phase Problem
OPERATION
- Refer to Code No. P0335: Crank Angle Sensor System
- Refer to Code No. P0340: Camshaft Position Sensor System
FUNCTION
- The engine-ECU monitors the signals input from the crank angle sensor and camshaft position sensor.
- The engine-ECU compares these input pulse signals to check the position relations for validity.
TROUBLE JUDGMENT
Check Conditions
- Battery positive voltage is 8 - 16 V
- One of the following two is true.
- 2 seconds have passed after the ignition switch is turned on, the crank angle sensor and camshaft position sensor output signals are normal, and the engine rotation speed is 1,200 r/min or lower.
- Cranking is in progress, the engine rotation speed is 350 r/min or faster, and the engine cooling water temperature is -30°C or higher.
- The phase shift angle between the crank and camshaft position sensor signals exceeds its threshold value.
FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION
- The engine is stopped (The fuel injection and pump pressure feed are stopped).
PROBABLE CAUSES
- Failed crank angle sensor
- Failed camshaft position sensor
- Harness damage in crank angle sensor circuit or loose connector contact
- Harness damage in camshaft position sensor circuit or loose connector contact
- Failed timing chain
- Failed engine-ECU
