PRECAUTIONS AT CHARGING <PHEV>

CHARGER AND POWER OUTLET

warning
  • Before charging, check for any foreign object including dust and water on the battery charging connection and charging plug. At this time, do not touch the battery charging connection. If a connection is made with any foreign object including dust and water present, an electrical leakage or electric shock may result. If there is a risk of water splash on the connection, do not perform the charging.
  • To prevent any electric shock and fire occurrence caused by electrical leakage, always use the power outlet with earth that is waterproofed and connected to the earth leakage breaker.
  • Use an independent household power outlet. If other devices are used concurrently by attaching a plug adapter, or if an extension cable is used, an electric shock may result, or an abnormal heating may occur with the power outlet, resulting in a fire hazard.
  • Do not perform charging with bundling or binding the regular charging cable. A fire hazard may result by overheating of the regular charging cable.
caution Charging from other forms of power supply such as alternator may result in a trouble occurrence.
There are two types of charging: normal charging and quick charging. The normal charging is performed using the on-board charger and a domestic power outlet. The quick charging is performed using the special quick charger that is compatible with this vehicle.
note The auxiliary battery is charged automatically while the Ready indicator is being illuminated or while the main battery is being charged.

PRECAUTIONS AT REGULAR CHARGING

warning
  • Always use the regular charging cable that is equipped with the vehicle.
  • Do not insert or remove the plug with a moistened or wet hand.
  • Do not touch the metal terminal of regular charging connection and regular charging cable (regular charging plug). An accident such as electric shock may result.
  • Do not perform charging with the vehicle covered with the body cover.
  • When there is a risk of lightning strike, do not perform charging.
  • If any unusual smell is noticed or if smoke is detected from the vehicle, immediately stop the charging.
  • Do not perform charging if any damage, corrosion, or rust is found with the regular charging cable, or if any looseness is present with the connection. An electrical leakage, electric shock, short, or fire hazard may result.
  • Never modify or disassemble the charging cable. A fire hazard may result.
  • When handling the charging cable, be careful with the followings: do not pull forcibly; do not twist; do not drag; do not place heavy object onto the cable or adapter; do not place heating devices (stove, etc.) near the cable or adapter; do not drop the regular charging plug; and do not subject the regular charging plug to any strong shocks.
  • When removing and connecting the regular charging cable (regular charging plug), remove and connect the regular charging plug straight. If the regular charging plug is forcibly removed or connected while it is slanted or twisted, the plug may be damaged. Due to this, the plug cannot be inserted or charging cannot be performed by poor connection.
  • Do not perform charging at an ill-ventilated place enclosed by walls or others. Keep a source of fire away from the auxiliary battery. At charging, a building in which work is performed may be charged with flammable gas generated from the auxiliary battery, and an explosion may result. When the charging is unavoidable, always exercise sufficient ventilation.
  • After charging is complete, securely close the inner lid and the lid of regular charging connection to prevent any water or dust intrusion.
  • Always remove the plug from the power outlet after charging is finished. If the plug is kept connected to the power outlet, a serious accident including electric shock will result.
caution During charging, the cooling fan may operate automatically even when the power supply mode of the electric motor switch is turned off. Do not place the hands near the cooling fan during charging.
note
    Approximate charging duration

    • Approx. 7 hours with household power outlet

PRECAUTIONS AT QUICK CHARGING

warning
  • Always use the quick charger which is compatible with this vehicle. An accident or trouble will result if a quick charger not compatible with this vehicle is used.
  • Do not touch the metal terminal of quick charging connection and of quick charger (quick charging plug). An accident such as electric shock may result.
  • After charging is complete, securely close the quick charging connection inner lid and the quick charging lid to prevent any water or dust intrusion. Any water or dust intrusion may cause an electrical leakage, resulting in an electric shock or short.
note
  • Approximate charging duration

    • It will take approx. 30 minutes until the battery charged level reaches 80% by using a quick charger.
  • The electric motor unit will not start while the quick charger (quick charging plug) is being connected to the quick charging connection. In order to start the electric motor unit, remove the quick charger (quick charging plug) from the quick charging connection.
  • The charging may end before a fully-charged status is reached. This is a control implemented to shorten the charging duration, and does not indicate any trouble. To fully charge the battery, perform the charging again.
