ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN AT DRIVE BATTERY WATER INTRUSION <PHEV>

If the drive battery is immersed in water due to vehicle submersion, take actions according to the steps below.
danger Never fill the seawater to avoid the danger of short. If seawater enters into the drive battery pack, fill the fresh water in continuous jet to replace the water inside the battery pack.
1.Remove the service lid cover. (Refer to .)
2.

Remove the plug on the service lid.
3.
caution Because dissolved metal may be contained in the discharged water, appropriately process the water as industrial waste.
Refill salt-free water (such tap water, well water or pond water) into the drive battery through the opening on the service lid fully. Then flush the system at 3 litre/min for 30 minutes. The water will be drained through the drain plug on the bottom of the drive battery. Collect it with a tray.
4.After you have refilled water for 30 minutes, wait until the water is not drained any more.
5.Raise the vehicle to remove the battery protector. (Refer to .)
6.Move the vehicle to an open area which is ventilated well.
7.

Seal the drain plug with the drain plug gasket (MB992947) which is supplied with the drain plug cover (MB992946). Then hold the gasket using a jack.
note The special tool Drain plug gasket (MB992947) is supplied with the special tool Drain plug cover (MB992946).
8.Refill salt-free water (such tap water, well water or pond water) into the drive battery through the opening on the service lid until it escapes.
9.Leave the vehicle approx. 84 hours (3.5 days) with the system refilled with water fully. During that period, hydrogen is electrolytically generated from water in the battery. Therefore, open the windows, the doors and the tailgate, and store the vehicle at an open area which is ventilated well.
10.
caution Because dissolved metal may be contained in the discharged water, appropriately process the water as industrial waste.
Remove the special tool from the bottom of the drain plug, and then wait until water does not escape any more from the drain plug. Place a tray under the drain plug to catch any escaping water.
11.
caution Because dissolved metal may be contained in the discharged water, appropriately process the water as industrial waste.
Remove the work-hole lid on the bottom of the drive battery to drain the water. (Refer to .)
12.Dispose of the drive battery. (Dispose of the battery in the usual way.)
