Inspection Procedure 6: The buzzer does not sound when the brake pedal is released with the vehicle stationary. (The selector lever position displayed on the combination meter is NOT "P" with the engine stopped)

caution Before replacing the ECU, ensure that the power supply circuit, the earth circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

PROBABLE CAUSES

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check whether the stop lamp operates normally.

The stop lamp should illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed, and should go out when the brake pedal is released.

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES : Go to Step 7.

NO (does not illuminate) : Go to Step 6.

NO (does not go out) : Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Stop lamp switch check.

Check the stop lamp switch. Refer to GROUP 35A - Brake Pedal .

Go to Step 3.

Replace the stop lamp switch.

STEP 3. Check whether the brake pedal is installed properly.

Check that the brake pedal is installed correctly.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.

Adjust the brake pedal. Refer to GROUP 35A - Brake pedal removal and installation .

STEP 4. Voltage measurement at acoustic vehicle alerting-ECU connector SLSW terminal.

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the power supply mode of the electric motor switch to ON.
(3)Check the voltage between the acoustic vehicle alerting-ECU connector SLSW terminal and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.

Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Check of short to power supply and open circuit in SLSW line between acoustic vehicle alerting-ECU connector and stop lamp switch connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.

Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 6. Check of short to power supply and open circuit in earth line between stop lamp switch connector and body earth.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.

Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.

STEP 7. Retest the system.

Check that the AVAS works normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

Replace the acoustic vehicle alerting-ECU.
