INSPECTION PROCEDURE 15: EV system over heat (Water cooling system)




COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM


The EV cooling system (water cooling system), the cooling fan or the EV coolant temperature sensor is suspected.

PROBABLE CAUSES



  • Insufficient or deteriorated motor coolant
  • The cooling fan system fails
  • Malfunction of water temperature sensor
  • Malfunction of EV radiator

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


STEP 1. Does the PHEV-ECU store a diagnosis code related to the EV cooling system (water cooling system)?


Refer to .

Q. Is any diagnosis code stored?

Troubleshoot for the relevant diagnosis code.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Motor coolant level check


Refer to GROUP 14B - Motor Coolant Level Check .

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.
Adjust the motor coolant level (between the EV radiator condenser tank "FULL" and "LOW" lines). (Refer to GROUP 14B - Coolant Change .)

STEP 3. M.U.T.-III actuator test (PHEV-ECU).


Actuator test
  • Execute the following actuator tests:
Item 12. Radiator fan 1 actuate(0%)
OK: The actuator test is executed but radiator fan 1 is not activated.
Item 13. Radiator fan 1 actuate(50%)
OK: The actuator test is executed and radiator fan 1 runs at a rate of 50%.
Item 14. Radiator fan 1 actuate(100%)
OK: The actuator test is executed and radiator fan 1 runs at a rate of 100%.
Item 15. Radiator fan 2 actuate(0%)
OK: The actuator test is executed but radiator fan 2 is not activated.
Item 16. Radiator fan 2 actuate(50%)
OK: The actuator test is executed and radiator fan 2 runs at a rate of 50%.
Item 17. Radiator fan 2 actuate(100%)
OK: The actuator test is executed and radiator fan 2 runs at a rate of 100%.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Proceed to GROUP 14A - Troubleshooting, Trouble Symptom Procedure "Inspection Procedure 3: Radiator Fan and Condenser Fan do not Operate <4B1-PHEV>." (Refer to .)

STEP 4. M.U.T.-III service data (PHEV-ECU).


Check that the following service data display contents are normal (Refer to ).
Service data
  • Item 82: Water temperature sensor voltage
Check condition
Normal condition
The motor coolant temperature is 0°C
Approximately 3.5 V
The motor coolant temperature is 20°C
Approximately 2.6 V
The motor coolant temperature is 40°C
Approximately 1.7 V
The motor coolant temperature is 60°C
Approximately 1.0 V

Q. Is the check result normal?

Replace the EV radiator (Refer to GROUP 14B - EV radiator/EV radiator condenser rank ). Then go to Step 5.
Check EV water temperature sensor. (Refer to ). Then go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Retest the system.


Q. Is the check result normal?

The procedure is complete.
Return to Step 1.
