Inspection Procedure 3: Even when the selector lever is in the P position, the ignition switch cannot be turned to the LOCK (OFF) position. /When the selector lever is in other than the P position, the ignition switch can be turned to the LOCK (OFF) position.<CVT>

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Steering lock solenoid malfunction
  • Selector lever assembly malfunction
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III other system service data

  • Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position, and check the ETACS-ECU service data.

Q. Is the check result normal?

STEP 2. Connector check: C-20 Selector lever assembly connector?C-415 ETACS-ECU connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

STEP 3. Voltage measurement at the C-20 selector lever assembly connector

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch from "ACC" position.
(3)Measure the voltage between the C-20 selector lever assembly connector terminal No. 5 and the body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

STEP 4. Wiring harness check between the C-20 selector lever assembly connector terminal No. 12 and the C-415 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No. 9

  • Check the power supply line for open or short circuit.
note Before the wiring harness check, check the joint connector C-102, and repair them if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?

STEP 5. Resistance measurement at the C-20 selector lever assembly connector

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Measure the resistance between the C-20 elector lever assembly connector terminal No. 6 and the body earth.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

STEP 6. Wiring harness check from C-20 Selector lever assembly connector terminal No. 6 to body earth

  • Check the earth wires for open circuit.
note Before the wiring harness check, check the C-108 joint connector and C-01 earth joint connector, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?

STEP 7. Connector check: C-308 Steering lock solenoid connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

STEP 8. Steering lock solenoid check

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure the resistance at the equipment side.
(2)Measure the resistance between terminal No. 1 and terminal No. 2.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

STEP 9. Resistance measurement at the C-308 steering lock solenoid connector

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Measure the resistance between the C-308 steering lock solenoid connector terminal No. 2 and the body earth.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

STEP 10. Wiring harness check from C-308 steering lock solenoid connector terminal No. 2 to body earth

  • Check the earth wires for open circuit.
note Before the wiring harness check, check the C-108 joint connector and C-01 earth joint connector, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?
