Inspection Procedure 3: The radio broadcasting can not be received. <Digital radio (vehicles with DAB tuner)>


caution Before replacing the radio and CD player, ensure that the power supply circuit, the earth circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
In case of digital radio broadcasting cannot be received, digital audio broadcast (DAB) tuner, antenna rod, antenna base, antenna feeder or radio and CD player may have a problem.

PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Malfunction of DAB tuner
  • Malfunction of antenna rod
  • Malfunction of antenna base
  • Malfunction of antenna feeder
  • Malfunction of radio and CD player
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Confirmation in display audio service mode.
(1)Display the "External Device Connection Check" screen (Refer to ).
(2)Check that "DAB" is "OK."

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 8.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Connector check: C-12 DC/DC converter connector <Vehicles with AS&G system>, C-105 radio and CD player connector, C-140 DAB tuner connector

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 3.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 3. Voltage measurement at the C-140 DAB tuner connector.
(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Measure the voltage between the C-140 DAB tuner connector terminal No. 1 and the body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Wiring harness check between the C-140 DAB tuner connector terminal No. 1 and the fusible link (36) <Petrol (Vehicles without AS&G system)> or (38) <Diesel (Vehicles without AS&G system)> or DC/DC converter terminal No. 7 <vehicles with AS&G system>.

  • Check the power supply line for open circuit and short circuit.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector C-127, C-128 <Vehicles without AS&G system> and C-139, ETACS-ECU connector C-406 <Vehicles without AS&G system> and C-417 <Vehicles without AS&G system>, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 5. Resistance measurement at the C-140 DAB tuner connector.
(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Measure the resistance between the C-140 DAB tuner connector terminal No. 8 and the body earth.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Wiring harness check between the C-140 DAB tuner connector terminal No. 8 and the body earth
Check the earth wires for open circuit.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check earth joint connector C-01, and joint connector C-108, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 7. Check the wiring harness between C-140 DAB tuner connector terminal No.6, 7, 14, 13, 5, 2, 4, 11 and C-105 radio and CD player connector terminal No.7, 16, 6, 15, 17, 8, 9, 18

  • Check the signal line for open circuit and short circuit.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector C-139, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 8.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 8. Check the state of the antenna rod and antenna base.

Q. Is the antenna assembled?
Go to Step 9.
Assemble antenna rod and antenna base.

STEP 9. Check if there is any damage to the antenna rod, antenna base and antenna feeder.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 10.
Replace the antenna rod, antenna base and antenna feeder.

STEP 10. Check the connection of the antenna feeder’s plug and DAB tuner.

Q. Is the antenna feeder’s plug thoroughly connected to the DAB tuner?
Go to Step 11.
Thoroughly connect the antenna feeder’s plug and the DAB tuner.

STEP 11. Substitute a known good radio and CD player, and check the trouble symptom.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Replace the radio and CD player.
Replace the DAB tuner.
