Code No.4004: P/W (RR) Sensor fail (ground) <Double cab>


caution Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.


COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM


Current trouble
  • If the rear power window motor (RH) is operated while short to earth is detected in the power supply of the rear power window motor (RH) sensor, ETACS-ECU sets the diagnosis code No. 4004.
Past trouble
  • If the diagnosis code No. 4004 is set as past trouble, carry out diagnosis with particular emphasis on wiring and connector(s) in the CAN bus line. For diagnosis procedures, refer to How to cope with past trouble (Refer to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Treat Past Trouble ).
    note For a past trouble, you cannot find it by the M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics even if there is any failure in CAN bus lines. In this case, refer to GROUP 00, How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Treat Past Trouble and check the CAN bus lines. You can narrow down the possible cause of the trouble by referring to the diagnosis code, which is set regarding the CAN communication-linked ECUs (Refer to GROUP 54C - Explanation About The M.U.T.-III CAN Bus Diagnostics ).

PROBABLE CAUSES



  • Malfunction of the rear power window motor (RH)
  • Malfunction of the rear power window sub switch (RH)
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Connector check: E-06 rear power window sub switch (RH) connector and E-05 rear power window motor (RH) connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.

Repair the connector.

STEP 2. Check the wiring harness between E-06 rear power window sub switch (RH) connector terminal No. 3 to E-05 rear power window motor (RH) connector terminal No. 5.


  • Check the power supply line for open or short circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 3. Check whether the diagnosis code is reset.
(1)Replace the rear power window motor (RH).
(2)Check that diagnosis code is not reset.

Q. Is diagnosis code set?
Replace the rear power window sub switch (RH).
The procedure is complete.
