INSPECTION PROCEDURE 3: When the selector lever is moved to "R" position during the rear wiper operation, the rear wiper does not operate at the continuous mode.

caution Whenever ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the rear wiper does not operate continuously when the shift lever <M/T, TC-SST> or the selector lever <CVT, A/T> is moved to the R position during the rear wiper operation, the shift position signal input circuit or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Malfunction of the inhibitor switch <CVT, A/T>
  • Malfunction of the back-up lamp switch <M/T>
  • Malfunction of the shift lever <TC-SST>
  • Malfunction of ETACS-ECU
  • Malfunctions of the wiring harness and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check the operation of the rear wiper.

Check that the rear wiper system works normally by operating the rear wiper switch.

Q. Is the check result normal?

YES <CVT, A/T> : Go to Step 2.
YES <M/T, TC-SST> : Go to Step 3.
Refer to Inspection Procedure 1 "Rear wiper does not work at all ."

STEP 2. Check the M.U.T.-III Diagnosis code for other systems

Check that the CVT-ECU or A/T-ECU sets a diagnosis code.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Diagnose the CVT-ECU (Refer to GROUP 23A - Diagnosis Code Chart ) or A/T-ECU (Refer to GROUP 23C - Diagnosis Code Chart ).
Go to Step 9.

STEP 3. Connector check: B-110 Back-up lamp switch <M/T> or C-58 shift lever <TC-SST> connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Repair the damaged connector.

STEP 4. Back-up lamp switch <M/T> or shift lever <TC-SST> check

Check that the back-up lamp switch < M/T> (Refer to GROUP 22D - Transmission Inspection ) or shift lever <TC-SST> (Refer to GROUP 22E - Shift lever operation check ) operates normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Replace the back-up lamp switch.

STEP 5. Voltage measurement at the B-110 back-up lamp switch <M/T> or C-58 shift lever <TC-SST> connector

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness-side connector.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(3)Measure the voltage between the B-110 back-up lamp switch <M/T> connector terminal No. 2 or C-58 shift lever <TC-SST> connector terminal No. 4 and body earth.
OK: Battery voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Check the wiring harness between B-110 back-up lamp switch <M/T> connector terminal No. 2 or C-58 shift lever <TC-SST> connector terminal No. 4 and the ignition switch (IG1).

note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector A-60 <BWC> or A-11 <4A9, 4B1>, intermediate connector C-31, and joint connector C-30, and junction block connector C-313 and C-317, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the power supply line for open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 7. Connector check: C-304 ETACS-ECU connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Repair the damaged connector.

STEP 8. Check the wiring harness between B-110 back-up lamp switch <M/T> connector terminal No. 1 or C-58 shift lever <TC-SST> connector terminal No. 3 and C-304 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No. 2.

note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector A-60 <BWC> or A-11 <4A9, 4B1>, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the output lines for open circuit and short circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 9. Retest the system.

Check that the rear wiper operates continuously when the selector lever is moved to the R position during the rear wiper operation.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
