Diagnosis Item 14: Diagnose when the M.U.T.-III cannot receive the data sent by engine-ECU

caution When servicing a CAN bus line, earth yourself by touching a metal object such as an unpainted water pipe. If you fail to do, a component connected to the CAN bus line may be broken.

FUNCTION

TROUBLE JUDGEMENT CONDITIONS

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS

  • Malfunction of the connector [joint connector (CAN3) <except for RALLIART>, joint connector (CAN4) <RALLIART> and engine-ECU connector improperly connected]
  • Malfunction of the wiring harness [open circuit between the engine-ECU and the joint connector (CAN3) <except for RALLIART>, open circuit between engine-ECU and joint connector (CAN4) <RALLIART>, power supply circuit to the engine-ECU]
  • Malfunction of the engine-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Connector check: B-09 <except for 2000-Diesel> or B-28 <2000-Diesel> engine-ECU connector and C-124 joint connector (CAN3) <except for RALLIART> or A-66 joint connector (CAN4) <RALLIART>

caution The strand end of the twist wire should be within 10 cm from the connector. For details refer to .

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 2. Check the wiring harness between B-09 <except for 2000-Diesel> or B-28 <2000-Diesel> engine-ECU connector and C-124 joint connector (CAN3) <except for RALLIART> or A-66 joint connector (CAN4) <RALLIART>

caution Strictly observe the specified wiring harness repair procedure. For details refer to .
Disconnect engine-ECU connector and joint connector (CAN3) <except for RALLIART> or joint connector (CAN4) <RALLIART>, and check the following wiring harness for open circuit.
(1)The wiring harness between B-09 <except for 2000-Diesel> or B-28 <2000-Diesel> engine-ECU connector terminal No.90 <except for 2000-Diesel> or 83 <2000-Diesel> and C-124 joint connector (CAN3) terminal No.4 <except for RALLIART-CAN_H>
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
(2)The wiring harness between B-09 <except for 2000-Diesel> or B-28 <2000-Diesel> engine-ECU connector terminal No.91 <except for 2000-Diesel> or 104 <2000-Diesel> and C-124 joint connector (CAN3) terminal No.15 <except for RALLIART-CAN_L>
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
(3)The wiring harness between B-09 engine-ECU connector terminal No.90 and A-66 joint connector (CAN4) terminal No.6 <RALLIART-CAN_H>
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
(4)The wiring harness between B-09 engine-ECU connector terminal No.91 and A-66 joint connector (CAN4) terminal No.19 <RALLIART-CAN_L>
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
note Check A-65 intermediate connector, and repair if necessary <RALLIART>.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Check the power supply circuit of the engine-ECU. Refer to GROUP 13A - Troubleshooting <1500>, GROUP 13B - Troubleshooting <1800>, GROUP 13C - Troubleshooting <RALLIART> or GROUP 13D - Troubleshooting <2000-Diesel>.
Repair the wiring harness.
