Code No. P0336: Crank Angle Sensor Range/Performance Problem

OPERATION

  • Refer to Code No. P0335: Crank Angle Sensor System

FUNCTION

  • The crank angle sensor detects the crank angle (position) and inputs a pulse signal to the engine-ECU.
  • In response to the signal, the engine-ECU detects the engine speed, controls the fuel injection timing and fuel injection quantity, etc

TROUBLE JUDGMENT

Check Conditions
  • Battery positive voltage is 6 - 16 V.
  • Engine speed is 350 r/min or more.
Judgment Criterion
  • The number of pulses from the crank angle sensor per engine rotation is abnormal.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION

  • The rail pressure is controlled in the range between 50 and 100 MPa.
  • The DPF regeneration is prohibited.
  • The fuel injection amount is restricted (Output restriction).
  • The throttle valve is closed (Fixed opening degree).
  • The EGR control is stopped (fully closed).
  • The open angle of the accelerator pedal is restricted.
  • The AS&G control is prohibited.

PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Failed crank angle sensor
  • Harness damage in crank angle sensor circuit or loose connector contact
  • Failed engine-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Installation check of crank angle sensor

  • Check whether the crank angle sensor is correctly installed.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.
Repair or replace the crank angle sensor.

STEP 2. Check harness between crank angle sensor connector terminal and engine-ECU connector terminal SGTB.

  • Check power supply line for open/short circuit and damage.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.

STEP 3. Check harness between crank angle sensor connector terminal and engine-ECU connector terminal SGTG.

  • Check earthing line for open circuit and damage.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.

STEP 4. Check harness between crank angle sensor connector terminal and engine-ECU connector terminal SGT.

  • Check output line for damage.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.

STEP 5. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code

  • Reconfirmation of diagnosis code.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Replace the engine-ECU.
Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).
