Code No. P1612: Starter relay for Auto start

OPERATION

  • Power for starter drive is supplied from the battery to the starter relay connector terminal.
  • At the auto start, battery voltage is supplied to the starter relay coil connector terminal from the AS&G-ECU connector terminal STR.
  • When the starter relay is turned "ON", battery voltage is supplied to the starter from the starter relay connector terminal.

FUNCTION

  • The AS&G-ECU turns "ON" the starter relay at the auto start. This, in turn, supplies battery voltage to the starter.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT

Check Condition
  • More than 2 seconds have passed since the ignition is switched "ON" or more than 2 seconds have passed since engine starting sequence was completed.
  • Battery voltage is 11 V or more and 16 V or less.
  • Not in auto start.
Judgement Criterion
  • he starter relay (for auto start) terminal monitor voltage is 4.5 V or more for 2 seconds.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION

  • In the normal operation, the auto stop is prohibited.
  • If the malfunction is detected during the auto stop, the auto start is prohibited.

PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Open/short circuit or damage in starter relay (auto start) circuit or loose connector contact
  • Failed AS&G-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check of short circuit to power supply, short to earth, open circuit and harness damage in STR line between AS&G-ECU connector and starter relay connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.
Repair the damaged harness wire.

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code

  • Reconfirmation of the diagnosis code.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Replace the AS&G-ECU.
