Inspection Procedure 2: One of the tail lamps, the position lamps, or the licence plate lamps does not illuminate.

caution Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If one of the tail lamps, the position lamps or the licence plate lamps does not illuminate, the wiring harness connector(s), the bulb or the fuse may be defective or burned out.

PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Burned-out bulb
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Connector check: E-06 rear combination lamp (TAIL: RH) connector or E-12 rear combination lamp (TAIL: LH) connector, A-43 position lamp (RH) connector or A-19 position lamp (LH) connector, G-06 licence plate lamp (RH) connector or G-12 licence plate lamp (LH) connector, E-111 tail and turn lamp (TAIL: RH) connector or E-115 tail and turn lamp (TAIL: LH) connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 2. Check the bulbs of the tail lamp, the position lamp or the licence plate lamp.

Check the bulb of the lamp which does not illuminate.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.
Replace the bulb of the lamp which does not illuminate.

STEP 3. Resistance measurement at the E-06 rear combination lamp (TAIL: RH) connector or E-12 rear combination lamp (TAIL: LH) connector, A-43 position lamp (RH) connector or A-19 position lamp (LH) connector, G-06 licence plate lamp (RH) connector or G-12 licence plate lamp (LH) connector, E-111 tail and turn lamp (TAIL: RH) connector or E-115 tail and turn lamp (TAIL: LH) connector.

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Check the resistance between the lamp connector and body earth.

  • Resistance between A-43 position lamp (RH) connector terminal No.1 and body earth
  • Resistance between A-19 position lamp (LH) connector terminal No.1 and body earth
  • Resistance between E-06 rear combination lamp (TAIL: RH) connector terminal No.4 <short wheelbase>, No.5 <long wheelbase> and body earth
  • Resistance between E-12 rear combination lamp (TAIL: LH) connector terminal No.4 <short wheelbase>, No.5 <long wheelbase> and body earth
  • Resistance between G-06 licence plate lamp (RH) connector terminal No.1 and body earth
  • Resistance between G-12 licence plate lamp (LH) connector terminal No.1 and body earth
  • Resistance between E-111 tail and turn lamp (TAIL: RH) connector terminal No.4 and body earth
  • Resistance between E-115 tail and turn lamp (TAIL: LH) connector terminal No.4 and body earth
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check the wiring harness from E-06 rear combination lamp (TAIL: RH) connector terminal No.4 <short wheelbase>, No.5 <long wheelbase> or E-12 rear combination lamp (TAIL: LH) connector terminal No.4 <short wheelbase>, No.5 <long wheelbase> or G-06 licence plate lamp (RH) connector terminal No.1 or G-12 licence plate lamp (LH) connector terminal No.1 or A-43 position lamp (RH) connector terminal No.1 or A-19 position lamp (LH) connector terminal No.1 or E-111 tail and turn lamp (TAIL: RH) connector terminal No.4 or E-115 tail and turn lamp (TAIL: LH) connector terminal No.4 to body earth.

note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector E-120 <tail and turn lamp (vehicles for England)> and repair if necessary.

  • Check the earth wires for open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 5. Connector check: A-08X front-ECU connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 6. Check the wiring harness from E-06 rear combination lamp (TAIL: RH) connector terminal No.1 or E-12 rear combination lamp (TAIL: LH) connector terminal No.1, G-06 licence plate lamp (RH) connector terminal No.2 or G-12 licence plate lamp (LH) connector terminal No.2 or A-43 position lamp (RH) connector terminal No.2 or A-19 position lamp (LH) connector terminal No.2 or E-111 tail and turn lamp (TAIL: RH) connector terminal No.2 or E-115 tail and turn lamp (TAIL: LH) connector terminal No.2 to A-08X front-ECU connector terminal No.8.

note <LH drive vehicles> Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector D-219 <rear combination lamp (TAIL: RH) and licence plate lamp>, D-241 <rear combination lamp (TAIL) and licence plate lamp>, D-234 <rear combination lamp (TAIL: LH)> and E-105 <licence plate lamp> and joint connectors D-34 <rear combination lamp (TAIL: RH) and licence plate lamp> and D-37 <rear combination lamp (TAIL: RH) and licence plate lamp>, and repair if necessary.
note <RH drive vehicles> Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector D-241 <rear combination lamp (TAIL), licence plate lamp, tail and turn lamp (TAIL)>, D-234 <rear combination lamp (TAIL: LH)>, E-105 <licence plate lamp>, D-221 <tail and turn lamp (TAIL: LH)> and E-119 <tail and turn lamp (TAIL)>, junction block connector D-401 <rear combination lamp (TAIL: RH), licence plate lamp, tail and turn lamp (TAIL: RH)> and D-422 <rear combination lamp (TAIL: RH), licence plate lamp, tail and turn lamp (TAIL: RH)> and joint connector D-37 <rear combination lamp (TAIL: RH), licence plate lamp, tail and turn lamp (TAIL: RH)>, and repair if necessary.
