Inspection Procedure 1: Power of Radio and CD Player or CD Changer does not Turn ON when the Ignition Switch is in the "ACC" Position or "ON" Position.

caution Before replacing the radio and CD player or CD changer, ensure that the power supply circuit, the earth circuit and the communication circuit are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Damaged wiring harness or connector.
  • Malfunction of radio and CD player or CD changer.

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check to see that the power turns ON when the power switch is turned ON.

(1)Turn the ignition switch to "ACC" position.
(2)Turn ON the radio and CD player or CD changer power switch.

Q. Is it possible to put the radio and CD player or CD changer power in the "ON" position?

Go to Step 8.
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Connector check: radio and CD player or CD changer connector D-209.

Q. Is radio and CD player or CD changer connector D-209 in good condition?

Go to Step 3.
Repair or replace the component(s).

STEP 3. Voltage measurement at radio and CD player or CD changer connector D-209 in order to check the battery circuit of power supply system to the radio and CD player or CD changer (ignition switch ACC).

(1)Disconnect radio and CD player or CD changer connector D-209, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to "ACC" position.
(3)Measure the voltage between terminal 21 and earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check the harness wire between D-209 radio and CD player or CD changer connector terminal No.21 and ignition switch (ACC).

  • Check the power supply line for open circuit and short circuit.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connectors D-241 and D-238, and repair if necessary.

Q. Are the wiring harnesses between D-209 radio and CD player or CD changer connector terminal No.21 and ignition switch (ACC) in good condition?

Refer to Inspection procedure 2 "Malfunction of the ignition switch power supply system ."
Repair or replace the damage component(s).

STEP 5. Voltage measurement at D-209 radio and CD player or CD changer connector.

(1)Disconnect D-209 radio and CD player or CD changer connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Measure the voltage between terminal No.30 and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Check the harness wire between D-209 radio and CD player or CD changer connector terminal No.30 and fusible link (1).

  • Check the power supply line for open circuit and short circuit.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector D-241, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Repair or replace the damage component(s).

STEP 7. Check that the radio and CD player or CD changer is correctly earthed

The radio and tape player should be connected to the earth with an assembling screw.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Securely install and earth the radio and CD player or CD changer.

STEP 8. Retest the system

Check if the radio and CD player or CD changer power is turned ON.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00, How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the radio and CD player or CD changer.
