Inspection Procedure 1: Power Supply Circuit.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the odometer and trip meter are not displayed or all meter needles don’t move, power supply and earth system to the combination meter, or the combination meter itself may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Damaged harness wires and connectors
  • Malfunction of combination meter

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Connector check: Combination meter connectors D-02 and D-04.

Q. Are combination meter connectors D-02 and D-04 in good condition?

Go to Step 2.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 2. Voltage measurement at combination meter connector D-02 in order to power supply circuit to combination meter (battery power supply).

(1)Disconnect combination meter connector D-02, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(3)Measure the voltage between terminal 31 and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check the wiring harness between combination meter connector D-02 (terminal 31) and battery (fusible link No.1).

  • Check the power supply line for open circuit and short circuit.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector D-241, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the wiring harness between combination meter connector D-02 (terminal 31) and battery (fusible link No.1) in good condition?

Retest the system.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 4. Voltage measurement at combination meter connector D-04 in order to power supply circuit to combination meter (ACC power supply).

(1)Disconnect combination meter connector D-04, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to "ACC" position.
(3)Measure the voltage between terminal 16 and body earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Check the wiring harness between combination meter connector D-04 (terminal 16) and ignition switch (ACC).

  • Check the power supply line for open circuit and short circuit.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check joint connector D-34, junction block connectors D-403 and D-405, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the wiring harness between combination meter connector D-04 (terminal 16) and ignition switch (ACC) in good condition?

Retest the system.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 6. Voltage measurement at combination meter connector D-02 in order to power supply circuit to combination meter (IG1 power supply).

(1)Disconnect combination meter connector D-02, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to "ON" position.
(3)Measure the voltage between terminal 42 and earth.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Go to Step 7.

STEP 7. Check the wiring harness between combination meter connector D-02 (terminal 42) and ignition switch (IG1).

  • Check the power supply line for open circuit and short circuit.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check junction block connectors D-403 and D-405, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the wiring harness between combination meter connector C-02 (terminal 42) and ignition switch (IG1) in good condition?

Retest the system.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 8. Resistance measurement at combination meter connector D-02 in order to the earth circuit to the combination meter.

(1)Disconnect combination meter connector D-02, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Measure the resistance between terminal 41 and body earth.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
(3)Measure the resistance between terminal 52 and body earth.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 10.
Go to Step 9.

STEP 9. Check the wiring harness between combination meter connector D-02 (terminals 41 and 52) and body earth.

  • Check the earth wires for open circuit.

Q. Are the wiring harness between combination meter connector D-02 (terminals 41 and 52) and body earth in good condition?

Retest the system.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 10. Retest the system.

Q. Is the check result satisfactory?

Intermittent Malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction .)
Replace the combination meter.
