caution When servicing a CAN bus line, earth yourself by touching a metal object such as an unpainted water pipe. If you fail to do, a component connected to the CAN bus line may be broken.

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


STEP 1. Check the CAN bus lines. Resistance measurement at D-127 diagnosis connector.


caution A digital multimeter should be used. For details refer to .
caution The test wiring harness should be used. For details refer to .
note This inspection allows you to check that there is a short to earth in either CAN_H line or CAN_L line. Thus, in the following steps, check the CAN bus line that is defective.
(1)Disconnect resistor connector D-42 <vehicles without ASTC> or ASTC-ECU connector D-223 <vehicles with ASTC> and combination meter connector D-04, and measure the resistance at harness side of diagnosis connector D-127.
(2)
caution When measuring the resistance, disconnect the negative battery terminal. For details refer to .
Ensure that the negative battery terminal is disconnected.
(3)Resistance between D-127 diagnosis connector terminal No.6 (CAN_H) and body earth
OK: 1 kΩ or more
(4)Resistance between D-127 diagnosis connector terminal No.14 (CAN_L) and body earth
OK: 1 kΩ or more

Q. Is the check result normal?

<Both of the measurement results show 1 kΩ or more> Go to Step 28 .
<Either of CAN_H line or CAN_L line the measurement results shows 1 kΩ or less> Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Check the CAN line. Resistance measurement at D-230 intermediate connector.

(1)Disconnect the intermediate connector (D-230), and measure at its female-side intermediate connector (at the control wiring harness side).
(2)
caution When measuring the resistance, disconnect the negative battery terminal. For details refer to .
Ensure that the negative battery terminal is disconnected.
(3)Resistance between D-230 intermediate connector terminal No.13 (CAN_H) and body earth
OK: 1 kΩ or more
(4)Resistance between D-230 intermediate connector terminal No.12 (CAN_L) and body earth
OK: 1 kΩ or more

Q. Is the check result normal?

<1 kΩ or more> Go to Step 15.
<Less than 1 kΩ> Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check the CAN line between joint connector (CAN2) and the resistor <vehicles without ASTC> or ASTC-ECU <vehicles with ASTC>. Resistance measurement at D-22 joint connector (CAN2).

(1)Disconnect joint connector (CAN2), and measure at the wiring harness side.

YES <Vehicles without ASTC> : <1 kΩ or more> Go to Step 6.
NO (the check result is not normal.) : <Less than 1 kΩ> Repair the wiring harness between joint connector (CAN2) and the resistor connector <vehicle without ASTC> or ASTC-ECU connector <vehicles with ASTC>.

STEP 4. Check the CAN line between joint connector (CAN2) and the G and yaw rate sensor. Resistance measurement at D-22 joint connector (CAN2).

STEP 5. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics [G and yaw rate sensor connector disconnected]


(1)Disconnect G and yaw rate sensor connector D-18, and diagnose by using the M.U.T.-III.


(2)Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen is as shown in the illustration.

Q. Does M.U.T.-III screen correspond to the illustration?

Check the intermediate connector (D-225), and repair if necessary. If the intermediate connector is in good condition, repair the wiring harness between joint connector (CAN2) and the G and yaw rate sensor connector.

Check the G and yaw rate sensor connector, and repair if necessary. If the G and yaw rate sensor connector is in good condition, replace the G and yaw rate sensor.

STEP 6. Check the CAN line between joint connector (CAN2) and the engine-A/T-ECU <3000-A/T, 3800> or engine-ECU <3000-M/T, 3200>. Resistance measurement at D-22 joint connector (CAN2).

NO : <Less than 1 kΩ> Go to Step 7.

STEP 7. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics [engine-A/T-ECU connector <3000-A/T, 3800> or engine-ECU connector <3000-M/T, 3200> disconnected]


(1)Disconnect engine-A/T-ECU connector D-216 <3000-A/T, 3800> or engine-ECU connector D-245 <3000-M/T> or D-215 <3200>, and diagnose by using the M.U.T.-III.


(2)Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen is as shown in the illustration.

Q. Does M.U.T.-III screen correspond to the illustration?

Repair the wiring harness between joint connector (CAN2) and engine-A/T-ECU connector <3000-A/T, 3800> or engine-ECU connector <3000-M/T, 3200>.

Go to Step 8.

STEP 8. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics (retest the system)


Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen shows normal state.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Check engine-A/T-ECU connector <3000-A/T, 3800> or engine-ECU connector <3000-M/T, 3200>, and repair if necessary. If engine-A/T-ECU connector <3000-A/T, 3800> or engine-ECU connector <3000-M/T, 3200> is in good condition, replace the engine-A/T-ECU <3000-A/T, 3800> or engine-ECU <3000-M/T, 3200>.

STEP 9. Check the CAN line between joint connector (CAN2) and the A/T-ECU. Resistance measurement at D-22 joint connector (CAN2).

(1)Disconnect joint connector (CAN2), and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)
caution When measuring the resistance, disconnect the negative battery terminal. For details refer to .

OK: 1 kΩ or more

STEP 10. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics [A/T-ECU connector disconnected]


(1)Disconnect A/T-ECU connector D-140, and diagnose by using the M.U.T.-III.

(2)Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen is as shown in the illustration.

Q. Does M.U.T.-III screen correspond to the illustration?

Repair the wiring harness between joint connector (CAN2) and the A/T-ECU connector.

Check the A/T-ECU connector, and repair if necessary. If the A/T-ECU connector is in good condition, replace the A/T-ECU.

STEP 11. Check the CAN line between joint connector (CAN2) and the SRS-ECU. Resistance measurement at D-22 joint connector (CAN2).

(1)Disconnect joint connector (CAN2), and measure at the wiring harness side.

caution When measuring the resistance, disconnect the negative battery terminal. For details refer to .

STEP 12. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics [SRS-ECU connector disconnected]


(1)Disconnect SRS-ECU connector D-24, and diagnose by using the M.U.T.-III.


(2)Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen is as shown in the illustration.

Q. Does M.U.T.-III screen correspond to the illustration?

Check the intermediate connector (D-231), and repair if necessary. If the intermediate connector is in good condition, repair the wiring harness between joint connector (CAN2) and the SRS-ECU connector.

Check the SRS-ECU connector, and repair if necessary. If the SRS-ECU connector is in good condition, replace the SRS-ECU.

STEP 13. Check the CAN line between joint connector (CAN2) and the transfer-ECU. Resistance measurement at D-22 joint connector (CAN2).

(1)Disconnect joint connector (CAN2), and measure at the wiring harness side.

STEP 14. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics [transfer-ECU connector disconnected]


(1)Disconnect transfer-ECU connector D-124, and diagnose by using the M.U.T.-III.


(2)Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen is as shown in the illustration.

Q. Does M.U.T.-III screen correspond to the illustration?

Check the intermediate connector (D-224), and repair if necessary. If the intermediate connector is in good condition, repair the wiring harness between joint connector (CAN2) and the transfer-ECU connector.

Check the transfer-ECU connector, and repair if necessary. If the transfer-ECU connector is in good condition, replace the transfer-ECU.

STEP 15. Check the CAN line between joint connector (CAN1) and the combination meter. Resistance measurement at D-03 joint connector (CAN1).

(1)Disconnect ETACS-ECU connector D-420, and diagnose by using the M.U.T.-III.


(2)Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen is as shown in the illustration.

Q. Does M.U.T.-III screen correspond to the illustration?

Repair the wiring harness between joint connector (CAN2) and the ETACS-ECU connector.

Go to Step 18.

STEP 18. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics (retest the system)


Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen shows normal state.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Check the ETACS-ECU connector, and repair if necessary. If the ETACS-ECU connector is in good condition, replace the ETACS-ECU.

STEP 19. Check the CAN line between joint connector (CAN1) and the centre display. Resistance measurement at D-03 joint connector (CAN1).

STEP 20. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics [centre display connector disconnected]


(1)Disconnect centre display connector D-106, and diagnose by using the M.U.T.-III.


(2)Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen is as shown in the illustration.

Q. Does M.U.T.-III screen correspond to the illustration?

Repair the wiring harness between joint connector (CAN1) and the centre display connector.

Check the centre display connector, and repair if necessary. If the centre display connector is in good condition, replace the centre display.

STEP 21. Check the CAN line between joint connector (CAN1) and the CAN converter-ECU. Resistance measurement at D-03 joint connector (CAN1).

STEP 22. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics [CAN converter-ECU connector disconnected]


(1)Disconnect CAN converter-ECU connector D-252, and diagnose by using the M.U.T.-III.


(2)Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen is as shown in the illustration.

Q. Does M.U.T.-III screen correspond to the illustration?

Repair the wiring harness between joint connector (CAN1) and the CAN converter-ECU connector.

Check the CAN converter-ECU connector, and repair if necessary. If the CAN converter-ECU connector is in good condition, replace the CAN converter-ECU.

STEP 23. Check the CAN line between joint connector (CAN1) and the steering wheel sensor. Resistance measurement at D-03 joint connector (CAN1).

STEP 24. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics [steering wheel sensor connector disconnected]


(1)Disconnect steering wheel sensor connector D-308, and diagnose by using the M.U.T.-III.


(2)Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen is as shown in the illustration.

Q. Does M.U.T.-III screen correspond to the illustration?

Repair the wiring harness between joint connector (CAN1) and the steering wheel sensor connector.

Check the steering wheel sensor connector, and repair if necessary. If the steering wheel sensor connector is in good condition, replace the steering wheel sensor.

STEP 25. Check the CAN line between joint connector (CAN1) and the immobilizer-ECU. Resistance measurement at D-03 joint connector (CAN1).

(1)Disconnect immobilizer-ECU connector D-126, and diagnose by using the M.U.T.-III.

(2)Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen is as shown in the illustration.

Q. Does M.U.T.-III screen correspond to the illustration?

Repair the wiring harness between joint connector (CAN1) and the immobilizer-ECU connector.

Check the immobilizer-ECU connector, and repair if necessary. If the immobilizer-ECU connector is in good condition, replace the immobilizer-ECU.

STEP 27. Check the CAN line between joint connector (CAN1) and the diagnosis connector. Resistance measurement at D-03 joint connector (CAN1).

STEP 28. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics [resistor <vehicles without ASTC> or ASTC-ECU <vehicles with ASTC> connector disconnected]


(1)Disconnect resistor connector D-42 <vehicles without ASTC> or ASTC-ECU connector D-223 <vehicles with ASTC> and diagnose by using the M.U.T.-III.


(2)Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen is as shown in the illustration.

Q. Does M.U.T.-III screen correspond to the illustration?

Go to Step 30.

Go to Step 29.

STEP 29. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics (retest the system)


Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen shows normal state.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Check the resistor <vehicles without ASTC> or ASTC-ECU <vehicles with ASTC> connector, and repair if necessary. If the resistor <vehicles without ASTC> or ASTC-ECU <vehicles with ASTC> connector is in good condition, replace the resistor <vehicles without ASTC> or ASTC-ECU <vehicles with ASTC>.

STEP 30. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics (retest the system)


Diagnose CAN bus lines, and check if M.U.T.-III screen shows normal state.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Check the combination meter connector, and repair if necessary. If the combination meter connector is in good condition, replace the combination meter.
