Code No.01 Trouble in SWS Communication Line System or ETACS-ECU

caution If diagnosis code No.01 is set in the ETACS-ECU, diagnose the CAN bus lines.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT

The ETACS-ECU communicates with the column switch, the front-ECU, the sunroof motor assembly <vehicles with sunroof>, the power window main switch and the CAN converter-ECU <vehicles with auto lamp or security alarm sensor> through the SWS communication line. If there is any trouble in the ETACS-ECU or the SWS communication lines, diagnosis code No.01 will be set.

COMMENT ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

The wiring harness wire or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damage terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector, or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics

Use the M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54D - Troubleshooting ).

STEP 2. Check the following connectors.

Check the following connectors:

  • D-420 ETACS-ECU connector
  • D-311 Column switch connector
  • A-09X Front-ECU connector
  • E-03 Sunroof motor assembly connector <vehicles with sunroof>
  • F-02 Power window main switch connector
  • D-252 CAN converter-ECU connector <vehicles with auto lamp or security alarm sensor>

Q. Are all the connectors in good condition?

Go to Step 3.
Repair the defective connector

STEP 3. Check the following wiring harness.

Check the wiring harness for open and short circuit between the following connectors:

  • Wiring harness from D-420 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.59 to D-311 column switch connector terminal No.3
  • Wiring harness from D-420 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.59 to A-09X front-ECU connector terminal No.22
  • Wiring harness from D-420 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.59 to E-03 sunroof motor assembly connector terminal No.10 <vehicles with sunroof>
  • Wiring harness from D-420 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.59 to F-02 power window main switch connector terminal No.4
  • Wiring harness from D-420 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.59 to D-252 CAN converter-ECU connector terminal No.3 <vehicles with auto lamp or security alarm sensor>
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connectors D-130, D-133 <LHD>, D-114 <RHD> and D-241, and repair if necessary.

Q. Are all the wiring harness wires in good condition?

Go to Step 4.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 4. M.U.T.-III other system diagnosis code

Check if a CAN converter-ECU diagnosis code is set.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Diagnose the CAN converter-ECU (Refer to ).
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Check whether the diagnosis code is reset.

Check again if the diagnosis code is set to the ETACS-ECU.
(1)Erase the diagnosis code.
(2)Ignition switch: LOCK (OFF) position to ON
(3)On completion, check that the diagnosis code is not reset.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Replace the ETACS-ECU.
If a trouble is solved, it is determined that there is an intermittent malfunction such as poor engaged connector(s) or open circuit (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points ).
