Inspection Procedure 3: No sound is heard from one of the speaker. <Vehicles without audio amplifier>

caution Whenever the radio and CD player is replaced, ensure that the input signal circuit is normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

PROBABLE CAUSES

  • Malfunction of speaker.
  • Malfunction of tweeter.
  • Damaged wiring harness or connector.
  • Malfunction of radio and CD player.

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Checking with audio speaker test

Perform the audio speaker test, and check which speaker does not output the sound. Refer to .
note In the following procedure, check the speaker or tweeter that is abnormal.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Connector check: E-19 <front-LH>, E-11 <front-RH>, E-22 <rear-LH> or E-09 <rear-RH> door speaker connector, E-24 <LH>, E-25 <RH> tweeter connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.

Repair the defective connector.

STEP 3. Check the speaker or tweeter.

(1)Remove the speaker or tweeter. Refer to .
(2)Check that the speaker or tweeter outputs the noise when the voltage of 5 V is applied to the speaker or tweeter connector terminal.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Replace the speaker or tweeter.

STEP 4. Connector check: C-125 radio and CD player connector.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.

Repair the defective connector.

STEP 5. Check the wire harness between the speaker or tweeter connector terminal and the radio and CD player connector terminal.

Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit.

  • <Front door speaker (LH)> Check the wire harness between E-19 front door speaker (LH) connector terminal No.1, 2 and C-125 radio and CD player connector terminal No.5, 13.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connectors C-134, C-58 and C-15, and repair if necessary.
  • <Front door speaker (RH)> Check the wire harness between E-11 front door speaker (RH) connector terminal No.1, 2 and C-125 radio and CD player connector terminal No.6, 14.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connectors C-122, C-58 and C-15, and repair if necessary.
  • <Rear door speaker (LH)> Check the wire harness between E-22 rear door speaker (LH) connector terminal No.1, 2 and C-125 radio and CD player connector terminal No.2, 8.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connectors D-14 and C-59, and repair if necessary.
  • <Rear door speaker (RH)> Check the wire harness between E-09 rear door speaker (RH) connector terminal No.1, 2 and C-125 radio and CD player connector terminal No.1, 7.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connectors D-24 and C-59, and repair if necessary.
  • <Tweeter (LH)> Check the wire harness between E-24 tweeter (LH) connector terminal No.1, 2 and C-125 radio and CD player connector terminal No.13, 5.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector C-133, C-16 and C-15, and repair if necessary.
  • <Tweeter (RH)> Check the wire harness between E-25 tweeter (RH) connector terminal No.2, 1 and C-125 radio and CD player connector terminal No.6, 14.
note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connector C-121, C-16 and C-15, and repair if necessary.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 6. Retest the system

Then check that the audio sound is output.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Go to Step 7.

STEP 7. Replace the radio and CD player temporarily, and check the trouble symptom.

Replace the radio and CD player temporarily, and check that the sound is output from the speaker.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Replace the radio and CD player.
Retest the diagnosis. Go to Step 1.
