Code No. P0011: Variable Valve Timing System




OPERATION



  • Refer to Code No. P0010: Oil Feeder Control Valve System

FUNCTION



  • The engine-ECU controls the spool valve position of the oil feeder control valve corresponding to the driving condition of the engine and continuously changes the phase of the camshaft.
  • The phase angle of the camshaft is computed from the signal patterns of the crank angle sensor and camshaft position sensor.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT


Check Conditions
  • More than 20 seconds have passed since the engine starting sequence was completed.
  • Engine speed is more than 1,188 r/min.
  • Engine coolant temperature is more than 76°C.
Judgment Criterion
  • Difference between intake valve open timing and target intake valve open timing is more than 5°CA for 5 seconds.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION



  • None

PROBABLE CAUSES



  • Failed oil feeder control valve
  • Damage in oil feeder control valve circuit or loose connector contact
  • Failed timing sprocket operation
  • Clogged oil passage
  • Failed camshaft
  • Failed engine-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


STEP 1. M.U.T.-III data list



  • Data list reference table (Refer to ).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Check oil feeder control valve itself.



  • Oil feeder control valve connector check.
  • Oil feeder control valve check (Refer to ).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3.
Repair or replace the connector, or replace the oil feeder control valve.

STEP 3. Check harness between oil feeder control valve connector terminal and engine-ECU connector terminal OCV1.



  • Check output line for damage.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.

STEP 4. Check harness between engine control relay connector terminal and oil feeder control valve connector terminal.



  • Check power supply line for damage.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Repair or replace the connector, or repair the damaged harness wire.

STEP 5. Check camshaft sensing portion.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6.
Replace the camshaft.

STEP 6. Check variable valve timing sprocket operation mechanism for being stuck.



  • Check variable valve timing sprocket
    (Refer to GROUP 11D - Timing Chain - Inspection ).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Repair it.

STEP 7. Check oil passage of variable valve timing control system for being clogged.


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Repair it.

STEP 8. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code



  • Reconfirmation of diagnosis code.

Q. Is diagnosis code set?

Replace the engine-ECU.
