PROBABLE CAUSES
  • Malfunction of shift switch assembly
  • Damaged harness wires and connectors
  • Malfunction of the engine-A/T-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


STEP 1. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code


Either of diagnosis codes P1770 (P0705) or P1771 (P0705) is set, inhibitor switch is defective.

Q. Are diagnosis codes P1770 (P0705) or P1771 (P0705) set?

YES diagnosis code P1770 (P0705) is set : Refer to diagnosis code P1770 (P0705): Inhibitor switch system .
YES diagnosis code P1771 (P0705) is set : Refer to diagnosis code P1771 (P0705): Inhibitor switch system .
Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III data list



  • Item 27: Select switch
  • Item 28: Upshift switch
  • Item 29: Downshift switch
Check the above data list (Refer to data list reference table ).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
NO "NG" for all items : Go to Step 3.
NO "NG" for item 27 : Go to Step 10.
NO "NG" for item 28 : Go to Step 16.
NO "NG" for item 29 : Go to Step 22.

STEP 3. Check the shift switch assembly.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.
Replace the selector lever assembly.

STEP 4. Connector check: D-119 shift switch assembly connector


Check for the contact with terminals.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 5. Measure the voltage at shift switch assembly connector D-119


(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure the voltage between terminal No.4 and earth at the wiring harness side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Connector check: D-225 intermediate connector


Check for the contact with terminals.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 7. Check the harness between shift switch assembly connector D-119 terminal No.4 and intermediate connector D-225 terminal No.37.


Check the power supply line for short and open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 8. Connector check: D-216 engine-A/T-ECU connector


Check for the contact with terminals.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 9. M.U.T.-III data list



  • Item 27: Select switch
  • Item 28: Upshift switch
  • Item 29: Downshift switch
Check the above data list (Refer to data list reference table ).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the engine-A/T-ECU.

STEP 10. Check the shift switch assembly.

Go to Step 11.
Replace the selector lever assembly.

STEP 11. Connector check: D-119 shift switch assembly connector


Check for the contact with terminals.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 12.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 12. Measure the voltage at engine-A/T-ECU connector D-216


(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure the voltage between terminal 85 and earth at the wiring harness side.
(2)Selector lever position: Sport mode.
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 13.
Go to Step 14.

STEP 13. Connector check: D-216 engine-A/T-ECU connector


Check for the contact with terminals.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 14. Connectors check: D-216 engine-A/T-ECU connector, D-225 intermediate connector.


Check for the contact with terminals.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 15.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 15. Check the harness between shift switch assembly connector D-119 terminal No.3 and engine-A/T-ECU connector D-216 terminal No.85.


Check the output line for short circuited and open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 16. Check the shift switch assembly.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 17.
Replace the selector lever assembly.

STEP 17. Connector check: D-119 shift switch assembly connector


Check for the contact with terminals.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 18.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 18. Measure the voltage at engine-A/T-ECU connector D-216


(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure the voltage between terminal 77 and earth at the wiring harness side.
(2)Selector lever position: Upshift and hold the selector lever.
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 19.
Go to Step 20.

STEP 19. Connector check: D-216 engine-A/T-ECU connector


Check for the contact with terminals.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 20. Connectors check: D-216 engine-A/T-ECU connector, D-225 intermediate connector


Check for the contact with terminals.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 21.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 21. Check the harness between shift switch assembly connector D-119 terminal No.2 and engine-A/T-ECU connector D-216 terminal No.77.


Check the output line for short circuited and open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 22. Check the shift switch assembly.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 23.
Replace the selector lever assembly.

STEP 23. Connector check: D-119 shift switch assembly connector


Check for the contact with terminals.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 24.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 24. Measure the voltage at engine-A/T-ECU connector D-216


(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure the voltage between terminal 68 and earth at the wiring harness side.
(2)Selector lever position: Downshift and hold the selector lever.
(3)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 25.
Go to Step 26.

STEP 25. Connector check: D-216 engine-A/T-ECU connector


Check for the contact with terminals.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 26. Connectors check: D-216 engine-A/T-ECU connector, D-225 intermediate connector


Check for the contact with terminals.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 27.
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 27. Check the harness between shift switch assembly connector D-119 terminal No.1 and engine-A/T-ECU connector D-216 terminal No.68.


Check the output line for short circuited and open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.
Repair the wiring harness.
